Book Recommendations for Your Health Education and Self Care
Become your own advocate for your health!
There are so many educational services, books, audibles and documentaries out there! We recommend so many but we also let you know that we want you to find what works best for you with these resources. It's not for you to diagnose yourself but to help educate you that there are so many things that can be a cause that a prescription pill isn't always that answer or the best answer. The minerals in our food and in our bodies, the physical and emotional traumas that stay in our bodies and our upbringing can all affect where we are today.
Here are suggested resources to learn more about YOUR body and get you thinking to help you improve your health! You can click the title for a link for purchasing the books.
Dr John E Upledger
This is a book of stories from Dr John Upledger. He shares stories of patients that he had seen over the years that had difficult health cases, some mild and some severe that were having trouble getting answers or results from traditional doctors approach to their healthcare. It is an easy read because there are short stories that you can pick up the book and read one and wait awhile before you get back to it or do one a day.
Your Body's Many Cries for Water
Dr Batmanghelidj, M.D.
I loved this book! I have always been mindful of drinking enough or so I thought. If your goal has been to increase your water intake, this book is for you. It is also great because it allows you truly understand how your body works or doesn't work when not getting enough water and how that can affect your health.
Change Your Brain, Change Your Life
Dr Daniel Amen
Wow, talk about mind blowing (pun intended). This book is story after story and so much information that I really enjoyed listening to it and following along in the book. Dr Amen shares the anatomical reason, physiology and social explanations for how and why we have symptoms in our bodies and how the brain plays a role, also how even mild head traumas can cause these issues.
Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma
Dr Peter Levine and Ann Frederick
You body is resilient... or does it hold physical and emotional pain? This is another easy read like 'Your Inner Physician and You", short stories that you can easily pause and come back to. You learn through stories of others stories how our body holds onto the traumas that happen to us and what they do with it. This book is fantastic because it talks about how each person can view and handle the experiences in our lives.
Bessel Van Der Kolk MD
"In trauma survivors, Van der Kolk notes, the parts of the brain that have evolved to monitor for danger remain over-activated and even the slightest sign of danger, real or misperceived, can trigger an acute stress response accompanied by intense unpleasant emotions and overwhelming sensations. Such post-traumatic reactions make it difficult for survivors to connect with other people, since closeness often triggers the sense of danger." You will learn more in-depth, but easy to understand about the neuroscience of how trauma affects us.
Carolyn Dean, MD, ND
I purchased the book and audible for this one. It's so amazing to learn how so many of our symptoms are about us not having the right nutrients and mineral in our body. It's a great resource but to be able to listen too it makes it less overwhelming, you can highlight what pertains to you.
Eve Eschner Hogan, MA with Steven Hogan
This is one of my favorite recommendations! This book is great for allowing us to learn how we tick and how we view and are viewed by others. Read this alongside any other book or alone. It is designed for you to take your time and ponder answers to the many, many questions about yourself. It helps you to see that others have different upbringing than we do and be able to be more mindful of others when we interact with them. The first few chapters are short and easy to read and the rest of the chapters are all separated by topic and all questions about those topics. MUST READ to allow you a calmer life with more compassion and understanding of yourself.

A little about me,
I’m an Elite Brain Health Specialist Clinician , working as a Certified CranioSacral Therapist with Michael Morgan of Upledger Institute with Alzheimer's research and Menopause related brain health. I have 5 children, homeschooled two of them while I was a fire fighter in Baltimore City before suffering a career ending injury and meeting my husband. I was told to have a surgery or become a quadriplegic within 3 years and that was 20 years ago. I began doing major research on my own and have healed my scoliosis, herniated discs, concussions and more through the many disciplines that I bring to your sessions. My mission is to assist others through CranioSacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation and other disciplines while educating others to become their own advocates, feel into their body and lifestyle and create health and lifestyle plans that work best for them and take them from “I’m exhausted & I’ve TRIED EVERYTHING” to living their best lives!
Such a touchy subject, I know. I’m going to approach in the best way that I can neutrally.
